Engine 1
Castle Beach Fire Dept has placed Engine 1 in service! Featuring a new, radical design for special operations, Engine 1 will be one of three engines that will feature this body configuration. The rear-mount pump allows for storage in the forward compartments for hazmat and technical rescue applications, all while maintaining the standard engine company equipment. Engine 1 is is housed in downtown Castle Beach and responds to nearly 20 calls a day!

Castle Beach Fire Department has placed this Seagrave Marauder II triple combination engine in service as Engine 201. As part of the busiest light force in the city, Engine 201, along with Truck 1, responds to nearly 15 calls a day! Engine 201 serves the downtown district of Castle Beach along with the rest of the apparatus housed at Station 1. E201 features the latest innovations and incorporates a large amount of unconventional techniques to achieve the optimal size and length all while maintaining structural integrity. The 2020 version is slated for a brief refurbishment and will then be placed in service as Engine 205 soon.

Builder’s note: Comparing this rig with the 2020 version shows many changes, notably with the rear design. Whereas the previous design had inherent flaws connecting the hosebed to the body, this version utilized SNOT techniques to stabilize that particular area. In addition, I was able to shorten the body by 1.3 studs, allowing for a better scaled apparatus.

Truck 1
Castle Beach Fire Department has taken delivery of a brand new Seagrave Marauder II TDA (with 17 fully functional compartments) and will be placing the rig in service as Truck 1. The former 2020 Seagrave Capitol TDA will be reassigned to Truck 7. Although Truck 1 comes in at 61 ft in length, the apparatus can maneuver much easier than a rear-mount or mid-mount aerial thanks to the steering 5th wheel. As the busiest truck company in the city, Truck 1 sees action in downtown, the port, and the various freeways that connect Castle Beach to other municipalities. Per the Castle Beach Fire Department Truck Company Specification, this apparatus is a straight truck, carrying no water or hose. If necessary, a 3” monitor can be supplied by the 2-car and attached to the tip of the aerial for master stream operations. As part of the technical rescue team, this apparatus (along with Truck 2) has an A-frame gantry to assist with lifting heavy objects or for low angle rescues.

Fast Response 1
The brand new Fast Response vehicles have now been placed in service! To assist with the ever growing number of EMS calls, Castle Beach Fire Department has placed these two fast response vehicles at Stations 1 and 2. These apparatus are not only equipped for EMS, but also for fire and rescue since the FRs have forcible entry tools, high rise packs, and a combi tool. The two FF/Paramedics that staff each unit can be utilized as needed during an incident. These nimble units were also designed to support technical rescue operations with use of the crane. Although not as large as the one found on the heavy rescue, these smaller cranes can assist in hillside rescues where the larger rotator cannot access.

Rescue 1
Rescue 1 has received their latest rig, a 2021 Seagrave Marauder II/SVI heavy rescue! This rig replaces the 2017 Spartan Gladiator. Like the previous generation of rescues, this apparatus has a partial walk-in compartment that stores the wet/dry suits, ALS equipment, and forcible entry tools. Also, a custom slide out increases interior space for command purposes. Unlike the prior rigs, the side door to the walk-in compartment was eliminated as the crew primarily enters through the cab. This allowed design engineers to add storage solutions for high frequency tools. Another new change for the rig was to move the air compressor to the top of the rig to free up space in the compartments.
Rescue 1 is staffed by 6 men and responds to calls in the northern half of the city, while Rescue 2 handles the southern half. Rescue 1 also cross-staffs Rescue Platform 1. The compartments hold a wide variety of tools for various rescue applications including confined space rescue, high angle rescue, trench rescue, vehicle extrication, underwater/swift water rescue, and hazmat.

Rescue Platform 1
The brand new Rescue Platform 1 is now in service! After the 2020 Aerialscope was involved in a traffic accident where the rig was t-boned by a semi, the apparatus committee quickly convened to purchase a new platform in late 2021. During the planning phase, committee members interviewed the firefighters who operate RP1 to examine what could be improved. It was determined that compartment space and scrub area were some of the features that FFs desired. With that in mind, a bid for a rearmount aerial was submitted which Seagrave subsequently won. Prior to the body being fabricated, the apparatus committee added a deck gun to the driver’s side of the apparatus after seeing that the RP and other truck companies would typically be directly in front of the structure. Having that deck gun would allow for pinpoint placement for rapid water. As a rolling toolbox, the new Rescue Platform 1 is a great support unit for the rescue company. Currently, two members from the rescue company staff the unit and responds in tandem with the primary unit. However, in times of high demand, call-back members will staff the apparatus and can run in the place of a truck company.

Hazmat 1
Castle Beach Fire Department is proud to present brand new Hazardous Materials 1. Built on a 2020 Seagrave Marauder II cab with SVI bodywork, this rig replaces the 2019 Seagrave/SVI Hazmat rig, after the rig was involved in a traffic accident. Unlike most special operations apparatus, the new HM1 does not have a slide out. However, a command center is located in the cab along with a Flow Sciences biological safety cabinet to analyze foreign samples. HM1 also carries a wide variety of meters and detection kits to fulfill the motto “In omnia paratus,” which means “ready for anything.” HM1 is staffed daily by 8 firefighters, all of whom are hazardous materials specialists.

Reserve Truck 501
With the size of Castle Beach Fire Department, it is critical to have back up rigs so that frontline rigs can be maintained on a regular basis. Therefore, CBFD operates 3 reserve engine, 2 reserve trucks, 1 reserve rescue/US&R, 1 spare engine, 1 spare truck, and 1 spare rescue/hazmat. Reserves vary from spares in that reserves are fully stocked with equipment whereas spares are just the rigs.
Reserve Truck 501 is the primary reserve truck company in the city and is housed at Station 1. Previously serving as Truck 1, Truck 5, and Truck 6, this well-traveled rig continues to see action all over town! As one of two reserve tillers, RT501 backs up the truck companies in Battalions 1 and 3.
